1. Spatial and temporal variations in arthropod community structure: composition and functional diversity at different scales
Although there is a growing interest on understanding the relationship between functional diversity and the functioning and maintenance of community processes, relatively little is known about the determinants of spatial and temporal variations of communities’ functional structure. The main objective of this project is to study how community structure varies in space and time, evaluating the separate effects of functional and species diversity, the factors affecting functional diversity and its distribution in space. It will also be determined which environmental factors and other spatially structured effects (e.g. regional species pool and historical factors) influence the geographical variations in the functional structure of communities, and which processes might be causing community assembly.
